The man with the white paper is Witold Sobkow.
The lecture "World Leaders Respond to the European Crisis: A View from Warsaw and Prague."
Some of the points I picked up on from Witold Sobkow were interesting in relation to global economic and political issues related to the European Union. Some of the things that Ambassador Soblow pointed out were that, for one, France would favor atomic energy....BRIF stands for Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa.
Berlin, Paris and London are large players in the European Union.
One of the humorous parts of the lecture was when Ambassador Sobkow said "If you are not at the table, you must be on the menu." So make yourself known and involved.
Another interesting point was made, and that is when he said that 'the difference between Poland and Greece is that we (Poland) are used to suffering. We (Poland) don't want things to repeat which didn't work before...'
Another point to ponder on is that the 'unrest in Poland is because of pension reform. The Western part of Poland is more affluent...in the East there is a great amount of unemployment. To spread work evenly is a challenge'...and some of that is the employment of the older generation. Much of this is due to skills related to the digital age and a computerized horizon, skills which put the younger generation at an advantage in the job market. As I think about these points, it also applies in some ways to the situation in the United States.
These are just a few of my notes from the lecture today.
